Invitation to Breakfast dialogue:
Towards a low-carbon society: What does it take to transform?
When: 8:00 – 9:30, breakfast served from 7:30, February 19, 2016
Where: Kulturhuset, Oslo.
Climate change is calling for transformations at a scale, scope, rate and penetration unprecedented in human history. How do we do this? How do we transform systems and societies to achieve sustainability?
Research points to a variety of different solutions, ranging from technological innovations, government regulations, and support of market mechanisms, to national and international agreements, alternative economic models, and changes in lifestyle and behaviors. Alone, none of these are sufficient for steering societies on a sustainable pathway. The big question is how we bring the various solutions together so they work together, not only to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but to create real social change. This dialogue will focus on what it really takes to catalyze transformations to sustainability.
Dialogue participants include:
Hans Bruyninckx, Executive Director in the European Environmental Agency, Denmark
Frank Geels, Professor at the University of Manchester, UK
Karen O´Brien, Professor at the University of Oslo, Norway
Moderator: Lars-Henrik Paarup Michelsen, Norsk Klimastiftelse
Organizer: The Future Earth Norway Secretariat, Department of Sociology and Human Geography, University of Oslo
